The Taungthaman Lake is an idyllic body of water in Amarapura. In the centre of the Lake is an island which houses Taungthaman Kyauktawgyi Pagoda. The island can be reached either by hire boat, which is how we got over to it; or by the U Bein bridge, which is how we got back. It is said, at around 1200 metres long, to be the longest teak bridge in the world, and was built by a mayor of the city of the same name from left-overs when the Palace was removed to Mandalay.
