The Maha Vihara Mojopahit in Trowulan is the temple of the head of the Buddhayāna sect in Indonesia, which encompasses the three main Buddhist schools, Theravāda, Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna. As such the main temple includes shrines to Śākyamuni, Avalokitesvara and Mañjuśrī.

At the back of the temple there is a bronze relief depicting scenes from the life of Śākyamuni Buddha, and there is also a magnificent Mahā Brahma shrine as well.

One of the features of the temple is a large (22m) golden reclining Buddha statue, with reliefs around the base, not particularly skillfully done, but interesting nevertheless, depicting the Life of the Buddha, the law of Kamma and rebirth.

It is set in a spacious setting, with gardens arounds, and the day we were there there was a grand Majapahit Festival in progress, and many schoolchidren were present learning about their history and enjoying the cultural shows.
