The Tanah Lot Complex

The Tanah Lot area has a set of temples on the western coast of Bali. The name means “The Land in the Sea” although in truth only one of the temples is slightly in the sea, the others being on cliffs that jut out into the sea.

The presiding deity is Dewa Baruna, the god of the sea, and is one of the seven sea temples along the Balinese coast. The temples are located in Beraban, Kediri, Tabanan. The main temple is believed to be founded by Dang Hyang Nirartha, who helped spread Hinduism from Java to Bali, and founded a number of temples.

Nearby is the Pura Pakendungun, which is a beautiful temple set in gardens, that is not much visited. See below.

Pura Pakendungun

The Pura Pakendungun is situated only around 500 metres from the coastside temples, but doesn't seem to be much visited. The approach has some very fine gardens, and retreat areas, while the temples are hidden away a little behind this site.

I couldn't find out anything more about this temple, and it appears to be just one of the many thousands of unsung temples throughout the land.
