Book the Sixth

high-definition creative commons photographs from the Light of Asia, Book the Sixth, together with further information.

In Book the Sixth, Siddhartha nears the end of his six-year quest at Uruvela. After nearly dying from extreme fasting, he realizes the Middle Way—balancing austerity and health. He accepts life-restoring milk-rice from Sujata, regaining his strength. Siddhartha then seats himself beneath the Bodhi Tree, vowing not to rise until he attains Enlightenment. Despite the fierce temptations and terrors sent by Mara, he remains unshaken, eventually achieving perfect Awakening.
