In Book the Seventh, word of Siddhartha’s enlightenment reaches Kapilavastu. King Suddhodana and Princess Yasodhara, who have spent seven years in mourning, are overjoyed. The King sends messengers to invite Siddhartha home; though they are converted by his teaching, the Buddha eventually returns. He enters his city as a humble mendicant. After an emotional reunion with Yasodhara and a conversation with his father about his spiritual lineage, the King and many Sakyas embrace his Law.
